Tayrona National Park

Day 1

Foolishly, I opted for the four-day hike to the Lost City in the Tayrona National Park. There is a more 'comfortable' five and even six-day excursion available. Were I ever to do this again, I'd do the five-day adventure. You learn pain and suffering on this four-day hike, but also how to adapt to conditions that most people have not experienced in their lives and how to find joy in the smallest of postitive situations and discoveries. I got into this 'gym fit', and that certainly helped, but finally my age, and probably packing too heavy, went against me. Two solid days of rain didn't help. It was, and I am probably speaking for most, if not all, an unforgettable adventure that at least I am very happy to have participated in.

These guys knew what we were in for, they do it all the time, but they weren't talking

Still clueless but with some anticipation

And so it began

We quickly learned to stay out of the way of the pack mules. They haul everything we will use over the next days to the camps.

A short and refreshing break for some who went and splashed around the creek

Who's that walking in these woods? Why, it's little old leaf-cutter ants.

A truly magnificent landscape greeted us as we reached the first high point

Our wonderful and ever kind and smiling guides, Pedro and Ruth
